The photo below shows the Donkere Spaarne (dark Spaarne river), in Haarlem, where the oldest registered breweries were situated. In the building on the left (with the unusual 7 steps gabel) was beer brewery The Fox.

The buildings in the middle were owned by Pieter Jacobsz Olycan, the mayor of Haarlem for 7 years (from 1630), which contained his brewery, named "Vogel Struys" (Ostrich from Africa, bred for their nice plumage). Read about another brewery under Jacob's pic.
